The APD210 from Menlo Systems is a Silicon Avalanche Photodiode (APD) that operates in a 400 to 1000 nm spectral range. This APD is an extremely sensitive alternative to traditional PIN photodiodes. It has a high-Speed Response of 5 MHz to 1 GHz with a noise equivalent power (NEP) of 0.24 pW/(sq. root Hz). This photodiode has a maximum incident power of 10 mW and a gain of 2.5 x 105 V/W at 800 nm. It has an inbuilt temperature compensation circuit that adjusts the ~150 V DC bias so that it operates near the breakdown voltage over a temperature range from 10°C to 40°C. This diode has an integrated radio frequency amplifier and a continuously adjustable gain setting. Major applications include Fast Laser Pulses, Ultra Low Light Level Signals, Beat Signal of Low-Level Inputs, etc.
