Ni Guangnan: China has reached the age of fully replacing mechanical storage with semiconductor storage

Recently, Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said at the 2023 World Semiconductor Conference that China has reached the era of comprehensively replacing mechanical storage with semiconductor storage.

At present, the domestic arithmetic center's storage capacity is relatively insufficient, can not give full play to the benefits of investment. According to Ni Guangnan, China is currently mainly using mechanical hard disk storage, advanced semiconductor storage technology lags behind, and China has reached the age of comprehensive semiconductor storage to replace mechanical storage, due to the price problem of this replacement is slower.

In order to promote the better development of the industry, the "Guidelines for the Construction of Computing Power Centers" should be issued in the form of a "line standard" or "group standard", proposing an appropriate range of ratios of "computing power" to "storage power" and an appropriate range of ratios of the use of SSD advanced storage power to "storage power", so as to avoid certain tendencies in the construction of computing power centers. Ni Guangnan believes that at present, China's arithmetic center in the use of SSD accounted for a relatively low proportion of China's storage market, flash memory accounted for a relatively low proportion of the future development of a huge space.

In this regard, Ni Guangnan said that with the gradual improvement of China's domestic storage machine and flash memory production capacity, the time has come for SSD to replace HDD.
